Applications: Trypan blue is used in microscopy (for cell counting) and in assessment of tissue viability in laboratory mice. It may also be used to observe fungal hyphae and Stramenopiles. Function: Live cells are very selective in the compounds that pass through their membrane, in a viable cell trypan blue is not absorbed. In a dead cell trypan blue diffuses through the membrane. Dead cells are distinctively stained blue under a microscope. |
